SCOTT A. TURNER

604.336.3065

Scott Turner is a civil litigator. First called to the bar of New York State in 1988, when he was an associate with one America’s largest law firms, Scott has been practising law for more than 30 years. He brings a wealth of experience to his new firm, where he hopes to continue providing sound legal advice to businesses, organizations and individuals faced with legal challenges in an ever-changing world.

Scott’s practice encompasses a wide variety of disciplines, including contract disputes, insolvency-related litigation, creditors’ remedies, shareholders’ disputes, estates litigation, insurance litigation, products liability and professional responsibility. Scott has appeared before all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada, and also before administrative boards and tribunals and arbitration panels. In addition to appearing as counsel, Scott has acted as a mediator and as an arbitrator in commercial matters, including shareholders’ disputes. Scott has completed the arbitration course of the British Columbia Arbitration and Mediation Institute (BCAMI).

Although he is, first and foremost, a litigator, Scott’s overriding motivation, always, is to help his clients try to resolve their disputes. He has, over the years, settled far more cases than he has taken to trial or final adjudication. No one wants to have to consult with litigation counsel. However, legal disputes happen and, when they do, it’s important to have competent, experienced legal counsel on your side, striving to obtain the best possible outcome in what are often difficult circumstances. Scott is that counsel, and he will always do his utmost for your cause.

Scott is active in educational programs within the profession, and has written papers and given lectures for numerous Continuing Legal Education programs.

Scott completed the National Program at McGill University and received his B.C.L. and LL.B. degrees in 1987. From 1987 to 1991 he practiced corporate/commercial litigation in New York City; from 1991 to 2005 he practiced with a large Canadian firm in Vancouver, first as an associate and then as a partner from 1995 to 2005. In 2006, Scott joined what is now Burns Fitzpatrick LLP, where he was a partner for more than 15 years, before starting Turner & Co.
